The method involves measuring height of wheels (4) with respect to a body by a height sensor (2) to carry out height correction in a short time after variation of mass of a vehicle. Measurement of the height is used in combination with values of stiffness of a suspension during the short time before starting of height correction so as to calculate total mass of the vehicle and to deliver total mass information to a driver. Signals are received based on a state of the vehicle by an on-board network i.e. controller area network (CAN)(8). An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising suspensions.
