The method involves determining deviation between the actual vehicle mass and the mass, which underlies for the computation of tractive resistance (ADIFF) and/or of a value stored in a controller for the vehicle mass. The mass of a motor vehicle i.e. utility vehicle, is provided by summation of the value stored in the controller for the vehicle mass and a signed value for the deviation. The mass is stored in the controller and utilized for the computation of the tractive resistance. A difference is formed between a value and the computed vehicle acceleration (AIST).
