The assembly (12) to carry and deflect a wet or dry web (1) without contact, e.g. of paper or film between processing stations, has at least one porous and gas permeable guide (2) towards the web and across its whole width together with a gas feed. A suction unit (13) is after the guide, in the direction (11) of web travel, with a suction jet (14) across the web and in front of a processing station e.g. an applicator (4) to lay a coating (16) on the web surface. The guide surface (10) has a curvature across the web width, matched by the suction unit.
