The automobile [10] is fitted with some form of distance sensor, eg ultra sonic or radar [15] that measures the parking gap [22]. The sensor outputs are used to compute the ideal reversing trajectory [16] for the vehicle. The deviation from the ideal path is determined and a control signal generated that actuates a separate electric motor input to adjust the motion.
