The flange connection has two detachably interconnectable flanges (5,7) with flange sealing faces (37,39) between which an elastic sealing ring (17) is pretensioned and encompassing an inner generated surface (15) of the flange. The thickness of the undeformed sealing ring between the sealing faces tapers radially away from the inner generated surface, and/or the width of the gap between the sealing faces of the sealing ring tapers radially towards the inner generated surface in such a way that the pretensioning of the undeformed sealing ring decreases radially outwards by a predetermined value on the side of the inner generated surface.
