The system has an electric regenerative brake, especially a generator (4), and a number of hydraulic friction brakes (2) driven by a hydraulic system with a brake arrangement and a number of low-pressure storage devices (12) from which brake fluid (B) can be drawn. The system can be regulated by an electronic regulation unit (28) via controllable hydraulic valves (14,16,..). A motor pump unit (22) for brake fluid is connected on the output side to a high-pressure storage device (30). An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of operating an inventive system.
