The hydraulic unit has an inlet line (38) and an inlet valve (40) for controlling an inflow of brake fluid from a brake pressure generator to a wheel brake cylinder (54) of the vehicle brake system. The inlet valve is arranged in the inlet line. A bypass line (78) and a bypass valve (80) arranged in the bypass line are provided, by which the inflow of brake fluid is conducted to the inlet valve. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a vehicle brake system of a motor vehicle.
