The method of extracting broken studs (2) or bolts involves drilling a bore in the stud parallel to the thread axis. An extractor pin is inserted into the bore to form lock with the stud and have and end extending outwardly. The bore is counter-threaded and the pin has a tapered thread shorter than the bore. The pin (10) is rotated to remove the stud.
