A hoist for a large range of vehicles, including four wheel drive vehicles, has two parallel vertical rams (1, 1') each topped by a support plate (2, 2') to which are fitted a pair of jointed telescopic arms whose free ends (11, 11', 12, 12') move in a horizontal plane to engage the jacking points of the vehicles. The swivel mounted top plates enable the operator to set the spacing of the arms especially to reach the otherwise difficult jacking points on four wheel drive vehicle.
