Endoscope comprises a tubular shaft containing components (16), especially lenses (18, 18', 18''), spacers (20, 21), shutters, prisms, and filters of an optical system. The components are at least partly surrounded by a support element made of a shrinkable transparent and tubular material (14) that is shrunk before the components are introduced into the tubular shaft. An independent claim is also included for a process for mounting components of an optical system inside a tubular shaft of an endoscope. Preferred Features: All the components are surrounded by a single tube (12) of the shrinkable transparent material.
