A hair dye composition comprising one or more precursors of an oxidation colorant, one or more alcohol oxidase enzymes, one or more substrates for the enzymes and one or more non-ionic surfactants derived from sugar. The substrate may be substituted in whole or in part by the oxidation colorant precursor, in which case it carries an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol group. Independent claims are included for: (1) dyeing hair comprising application of the claimed composition for a time sufficient of develop the desired coloration; (2) a dye kit comprising a first compartment containing the claimed composition apart from the oxidase and a second compartment comprising a composition including the oxidase.
