The device has an incremental type sensor (2) with a rotating part (8) connected to a crankshaft. A fixed part (6) has an analysis unit to determine an angular position of the crankshaft with respect to a reference position for generating a signal. An engine control unit (4) has an operation state in which the unit (4) activates a fuel injector and spark plug based on the signal. The sensor is electrically supplied permanently.
