The engine has a crankshaft (1), a starter-generator (7) and a crankshaft position sensor arranged inside the starter-generator. The position sensor is associated with the starter-generator and crankshaft. It is in two parts, with a first part mounted on the rotor (6) and a second part on a housing wall (14) or stator (12). The starter-generator has a control unit associated with the sensor that interacts with an engine controller.
