PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of evaluating tone quality that can evaluate the tone quality of operation tone, regardless of the kinds of apparatuses and apparatus modes.;SOLUTION: The method of evaluating the tone quality comprises performing evaluation by a pair comparison method, by taking out two arbitrary tones to a plurality of kinds of tones generated in forming an image by an image forming apparatus; regarding discomfort probability of the two tones by the evaluation as a target variable; layer-classifying a pair comparison result, by regarding a value of the difference between acoustic physical amounts of the two tones as an explanation variable and preparing a decision tree; regarding the discomfort probability of the two tones at each layer classified as the target variable; performing multiple logistic regression analysis, by regarding the value of the difference between the acoustic physical amounts of the two tones; and deriving an equation that predicts the discomfort probability of the two tones, from the value of the difference between the acoustic physical amounts of the two tones by combining the result of the analysis. The method evaluates the tone quality using the derived tone quality evaluation equation, by allowing the tone being an average value of the acoustic physical amount of all the tones (population) used for a pair comparison experiment from the equation to define the discomfort probability P as 0.5 and deriving the tone quality evaluation equation that predicts the discomfort probability of a single tone.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
