PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable pyroelectric infrared detection element and pyroelectric infrared detector with little pock corn noise.;SOLUTION: The pyroelectric infrared detection element 1 comprises a pyroelectric substrate 2, and electrodes 3a and 3b formed on a pair of opposite surfaces 20a and 20b of the pyroelectric substrate 2. The volume resistivity of the pyroelectric substrate 2 is 1×10¹⁰ to 1×10¹³Ωcm. Since the pyroelectric substrate has a low volume resistivity, even if electric charges appear due to a change in temperature, the electric charges immediately disappear through the pyroelectric substrate 2. Consequently, the surface of the pyroelectric substrate 2 does not become high voltage, suppressing discharging and thereby reducing pock porn noise.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
