PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coloring an aluminum alloy with a consitent gray (color) without being affected by a heat history of the alloy when coloring with the use of a current recovery phenomenon, and to provide an aluminum alloy colored gray.;SOLUTION: The method comprises: previously coloring an aluminum alloy for reference into a predetermined gray color while using current recovery treatment; determining elapsed time [h(std)] or electric quantity [e(std)] spent in a period while current density reaches Y (A/m2) from X (A/m2) within a range of 0.1 to 5.0 A/m2, and integral electric quantity [E(std)] which has passed through the aluminum alloy after the aluminum alloy had been energized and before the aluminum alloy is colored into the predetermined gray color; applying the same voltage as used in the current recovery treatment for the aluminum alloy for reference and measuring the elapsed time [h(obj)] or the electric quantity [e(obj)] spent in a period while the current density reaches Y (A/m2) from X (A/m2) when coloring an objective aluminum alloy into the predetermined gray color while using the current recovery treatment; and stopping the energization when the integral electric quantity has reached the stopping integral electric quantity which is calculated as a product of [E(std)] and [h(obj)]/[h(std)] or [e(obj)]/[e(std)].;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
