PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vegetation classification method of forest region by satellite data for performing making of a vegetation map over a wide region by extracting investigation object tree kinds classified along a forest book using seasonal change of band data of an investigation object region and by obtaining the distribution region.;SOLUTION: The processing procedure of this vegetation classification method of forest region is as follows: (1) setting suitable period for analysis of the investigation object tree kinds, and acquiring one or a plurality of band data of the investigation object region; (2) setting upper and lower limit value or threshold corresponding to each tree kind with respect to intensity value of respective band data, and making tree kind object extraction maps of the number of tree kinds; (3) making normalized vegetation index of the investigation object region; (4) extracting features of forest part or tree kind distribution by performing mask processing using vegetation index of the above (3) for the tree kind object extraction map of the above (2); (5) obtaining distribution of forest covered with the same kind of trees for every tree kinds by comparing or synthesizing by gradually combining tree type object extraction maps made by the above (2) or by the above (4).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
