PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a work from the ground surface to the utmost, and lighten a traffic jam and a trouble to neighboring inhabitants, by housing an expansion/ contraction shield machine in the middle part of a twin type shield machine arranged in parallel capably of being connected and separated. ;SOLUTION: An expansion/contraction shield machine 2 capable of being expanded and contracted in the direction perpendicular to the connecting and separating direction is housed in the middle part of a twin type shield machine 1 arranged in parallel capably of being connected and separated. At connection of the twin type shield machine 1, the expansion/contraction shield machine 2 is in a contracted state, and the construction space of a twin type shield tunnel for communication is insured on the tail part. At separation of the twin type shield machine 1, the expansion/contraction shield machine 2 is expanded so as to constitute a triple type shield machine, and the construction space of a triple type shield tunnel for communication is insured on the tail part.
