PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control rise of impedance generated by high temperature conservation of a lithium secondary battery. PSOLUTION: This surface-modified lithium nickel compound oxide is used as the positive electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery, and it is manufactured by calcinating the lithium nickel compound oxide after making a compound of a specific element among the elements of groups 4B-6B of the periodic table whose oxide has a melting point of 750C or more exist on the surface of a lithium nickel compound oxide.
