PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase in impedance caused by high temperature storage or the like of a lithium secondary battery. PSOLUTION: Surface modified lithium nickel composite oxide is manufactured by placing an element having an atomic weight of 28 or more of group 4A-6A elements of the periodic table on the surface of a lithium nickel composite oxide, and then baking them. By using the surface modified lithium nickel composite oxide as the positive electrode active material of the lithium secondary battery, the high temperature stability of the lithium secondary battery is tremendously enhanced.
