PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CO selective oxidation catalyst capable of cutting the CO concentration efficiently with a less amount of introduced oxygen even in the presence of methanol and a method for cutting the CO concentration in a methanol-modified gas using the CO selection/oxidation catalyst. SOLUTION: The CO selective oxidation catalyst has at least one kind of chemical compound selected from among an alkaline metal compound, an alkaline earth metal compound and a rare earth metal compound borne by a carrier together with ruthenium and platinum. In addition, the methanol-modified gas to which an oxidizing gas is added is brought into contact with this catalyst and only CO of the modified gas is selectively oxidized and removed.
