PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a COD measuring instrument capable of measuring automatically and quickly a COD of wash water of milled rice or the like, by a simple operation. PSOLUTION: This COD measuring instrument has a sample supply means 31 for metering-supplying a grain sample such as the milled rice provided in an instrument main body 2, a water supply means 11 for supplying water, a temperature measuring means 91 for measuring a temperature of the water, an air supply means 21 for supplying air provided in the instrument main body 2, a stirring vessel 41 for aeration-suspending the grain sample metering-supplied under water and air atmosphere, a wash water preparing means 51 for obtaining the wash water of the grain from the grain sample aeration-suspended in the stirring vessel 41, a sample cell 61 for storing the prepared wash water of the grain, a measuring means 71 for measuring absorbance of the wash water in the sample cell 61 by double wavelength lights, a COD computing means 111 for finding a COD value in a measured temperature of the wash water of the grain, based on a measured signal from the measuring means 71, and a corrected COD value converted into that at 20°C, and a disposal means 81 for doing away the measured wash water of the grain.
