PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem; the border between an image and its background is blurred at night, namely, glare is caused, and the visual distance becomes shorter at night than that in the daytime.;SOLUTION: The display device can be switched between daytime display and night display according to the ambient brightness, and in the case of night display, not only the light emitting elements corresponding to the display positions of a character and a pattern but also those corresponding to the background positions except for the display positions are turned on, and the contrast between the light emitting elements corresponding to the above display positions and those corresponding to the background positions is made lower than that in the state in which the light emitting elements corresponding to the above background positions are not turned off.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
