"Heterocyclic Compounds and Their Uses as Inhibitors of D-Alanine, D-Alanine Ligase". The invention is based on the discovery of a novel class of heterocyclic compounds having, for example, antibacterial properties. D-Ala-D-Ala ligase enzyme is a critical pathway enzyme in bacterial cell wall synthesis. The compounds may bind to and inhibit the enzyme D-Ala-D-Ala ligase. The activity of the new compounds combined with their ability to crosslink bacterial cell membranes makes them suitable for use as antibacterial drugs or in other antibacterial applications.
