COMBINED MINICELL ALIGNMENT AND HEADER PROTECTION METHOD AND APPARATUS

In a telecommunication system that uses asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)protocol as a data transfer infrastructure, minicell headerinformation is checked, minicell alignment is maintained, and ATM bandwidthutilization is improved by inserting only one header integritycheck code into each ATM cell rather than a header integrity check code foreach and every minicell header. The one header integritycheck code is determined from a combination of minicell headers stored in theATM cell.
