The invention relates to a stretcher-leveler (14) which comprises a stationaryknife (3) and a knife (4) which is adjustable in the vertical direction andthe transverse direction, said knife having a cutting edge (6) with spaced-apart cutting projections (8) in the transverse direction. The stretcher-leveler also comprises a transport device (9) for transporting a flat material(2) in a direction of transport (T) between the knives (3, 4), a cam (18)performing a periodic vertical motion, a transverse adjusting device (17) foradjusting the transverse motion of the adjustable knife (4) in a mannersynchronized with the traveling motion. The aim of the invention is to allowthe reliable, precise production of expanded gratings even at high numbers ofstrokes or frequencies while keeping wear low. For this purpose, an eccentricdrive (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 34, 36) drives the cam (18), thereby guidingthe cam (18) in a circulatory motion which runs in a plane that is determinedby the vertical direction and the transverse direction. The invention alsorelates to a method for producing expanded gratings.
