A paramagnetic garnet single crystal for magnetooptic devices that not only excels in the translucency in visible region but also can be produced in high productivity without inviting cracking, and that excels in the extinction ratio in visible region. There is provided a paramagnetic garnet single crystal for magnetooptic devices, comprising terbium and aluminum, wherein Mg is contained in Tb site or Al site in such a proportion that 0.001 to 0.015 part by weight, in terms of MgO, of Mg is contained per 100 parts by weight of Tb3Al5O12.
