Preform for producing bottles from thermoplastics has a mouth section (12) attached to a neck (14) and a cup-shaped, stretchable section (16), from which the body of the bottle is produced. A collar (24) runs around the mouth and the lower section of the neck is cylindrical and has thinner walls than the stretchable section. Independent claims are included for: (A) bottles produced from the preform; and (B) a cap for sealing the bottles with a cylindrical stopper section which fits into the mouth and a threaded cap which screws into it.
