The device has unit (10) determining torque (MT). A hydrodynamic torque converter (11) carries partly automated motor vehicle gear (12). The unit is provided to measure one of parameters (d[omega]/dt) for a scheduling process of speed (omega) abutting against the torque converter. The parameter is dependent on a rate of change of speed ([omega). The unit determines limitation moment for limiting initial moment (min) of the gear. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining torque for a motor vehicle.
