The source has an incandescent lamp (3) including a glass bulb (6), where the lamp outputs light that is outside the infrared range. A fluorescent layer is coated within an inner surface of the glass bulb. The layer converts the output light to infrared radiation. Spacers (7) are provided between the glass bulb and a cover (8) for the glass bulb, where the spacers are made from a heat resistant elastic material e.g. steel wire.
