The operating device in a vehicle is for the control of at least one electronic device not serving for the steering of the vehicle, whereby the control is effected by a force action on the steering wheel. The force action is detected outside the steering wheel (2), for which a sensing unit (5) is installed on a steering linkage (6). The sensing unit has pressure sensors (9,10,13) for the recording of force action. The control entails sensing force action directed radially and/or axially to the steering axis (3). An independent claim is included for a use for the operating device which may be for the control of a navigation system, an air conditioning system, a radio, and/or an onboard computer.
