The device has a video sensor (11) for monitoring gestures of a passenger in a vehicle. A signal and image processor (12) processes a signal from the video sensor, such that the passenger class, the corpulence and the passenger gesture are determined by a central processing unit (13). The central processing unit is connected to a control device (14), which controls component e.g. seat, of the vehicle, based on the determined gesture.
