The method involves fitting an embossing die on a plate cylinder or a printing blanket cylinder or an impression cylinder. The embossing die is mounted as a part of a multipart impression mold (3A) on a cylinder. The impression mold is combined with another impression mold (3B) forming a corresponding counter tool. A rear side of the counter tool is adherently activated, and the counter tool is positioned on a surface of a counter cylinder by shifting the cylinder by the counter cylinder. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for embossing in a printing machine (2) a photopolymer impression mold for forming an impression tool.
