The modular unit has criss-cross ribbing (5) in the X and Y axes on the flat clamping faces (4) of pallets (1), clamping bodies or machine tables (3) which have T-grooves. The underneath sides of the resting or fixed clamping jaws (6), adapter plates or other structures have transverse ribbing so that the criss-cross and transverse ribbings are fixed to one another through identical wedge-shaped tips with a force and positive locking. The fixed clamping jaws can be positioned closely stepped at narrow intervals corresponding to the spacing of the wedge tips. Adjustable clamping jaws can be clamped with only one tension screw (11) directed perpendicular to the clamping face. A symmetrical double wedge fits between adjoining movable wedge jaws (13).
