The method involves obtaining an identifier of a digital document and a list of destination stations of the document in a peer-to-peer type network. A list of potential server stations (102, 103) that serve the document in the network are obtained. A notification having a representation of the document and/or associated identifier and the server station lists are sent to the destination stations. An independent claim is also included for a device to share a digital document across a peer to peer communication network# an information medium readable by a computer system, particularly CD-ROM or magnetic medium, such as hard disk or floppy disk, or transmissible medium, such as electrical or optical medium# a computer program stored on the information medium comprising instructions allowing to implement a digital document sharing method.
