The device has an air compression unit to supply air to a fuel cell, and a burner (3) associated to a reformer (2) and supplied with fuel having hydrogen in excess coming from the cell. An electronic control unit (9) has an estimator (44) to estimate rate of hydrogen in the reformer output based on operating parameters of the burner. A control module (45) controls fuel quantity injected in the reformer based on the estimation. An independent claim is also included for a process of control of a quantity of fuel injected in a reformer of a fuel cell system.
