The method involves determining a fuel quantity parameter characterizing corrective fuel quantity (K) during a main injection phase. The parameter is determined based on a parameter characterizing a timing interval of the phase and a pre-injection phase, and a parameter characterizing temperature of an internal combustion engine. The quantity parameter is determined based on a parameter (dt) characterizing control duration of the pre-injection phase, and parameters characterizing opening and closing time of an fuel injector.
