Battery charger and power supply control means

A battery charger comprises an internal combustion engine (13) coupled to a DC electric generator (11) operative to output a charging current to a battery (9), and control means operative to generate a control signal to control the internal combustion engine (13) such that the generator (11) outputs sequential charging current pulses to the battery (9). The amplitude of the current pulse delivered to the battery (9) corresponds to the most energy efficient operating speed of the engine (13). Control means for such a battery charger is also provided.
