PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive one-step method for enzymatically synthesizing L-threo-DOPS, L-threo-CHS and the other L--hydroxyamino acid derivative by isolating a gene encoding a highly stereoselective L-threoninealdolase, introducing the gene and preparing a highly expressed recombinant microorganism. PSOLUTION: The present invention provides (1) a gene composed of a DNA having a specific base sequence, (2) a gene composed of a DNA hybridized with a DNA composed of a base sequence which is complementary to the specific DNA under stringent conditions and encoding a protein having L-threoninealdolase activity, (3) a gene encoding a protein composed of a specific amino acid sequence and (4) a gene, composed of an amino acid sequence in which one or plurality of amino acids are lost, substituted or added in the specific amino acid sequence, encoding a protein having L-threoninealdolase activity.
