PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately determine the naturalness as a sentence for an optional phrase sequence. PSOLUTION: When the whole original of a translation object is not registered in a dictionary, parallel translations are acquired for each phrase of the original decomposed by the longest match principle to generate parallel translation patterns corresponding the whole original, and texts containing the respective parallel translation patterns are retrieved on the Web (36-44). When corresponding texts are extracted, translation patterns selected based on the hit number as parallel translation candidates are outputted (46). When no corresponding text is present, the process of generating a translation pattern corresponding to a partial phrase sequence of the original, retrieving texts containing the respective parallel translation patterns on the Web (59 and 60), and storing parallel translation patterns selected from the corresponding texts as parallel translation candidates (66) is repeated while gradually reducing the number of phrases on the original used for generation of translation patterns, parallel translation candidates are generated from the stored parallel translation candidates, and the co-occurrence is examined for the individual parallel translation candidate to select a parallel translation candidate (70 and 72).
