PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a gene and a gene product which plays a role in cancer similarly to tumor metastasis and skeletal related events (SRE) and to provide a model of metastasis and SRE and to identify a factor for modulating SRE and metastasis and to provide a method for controlling SRE and metastasis. PSOLUTION: The invention relates to a models of bone metastasis, a method for identifying a factor that modulate skeletal related event (SRE) and metastasis, a method for modulating the SRE and metastasis and a method for detecting SRE and metastasis. The methods and model generally comprise co-culturing cancer cells and host cells and comparing biological markers from such co-cultured cells with control cells. The methods and model comprise co-culturing one or more host cells and one or more cancer cells for enough time to enable detection of a biological marker exhibiting metastasis.
