PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a LAN switching apparatus capable of suppressing a broadcast storming caused in a network thereby reducing the affect on other parts in the network.;SOLUTION: A status monitor packet generating section 16 generates a status monitor packet and transmits the packet to a layer 2 transfer section 15. The status monitor packet is periodically generated at a period such as every 10 seconds. A status monitor packet discrimination section 14 discriminates whether or not the packet received by the LAN switching apparatus 1 is generated by its own apparatus, that is, the status monitor packet generating section 16. When receiving the status monitor packet transmitted from its own apparatus, the status monitor packet discrimination section 14 discriminates that a network loop takes place in a reception port destination so as not to transfer received packets from the reception port to other ports.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
