PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mass-producing methane using carbon monoxide which is contained in the imperfect combustion gas of a dry biomass and an organic waste. PSOLUTION: At least one method is applied out of the following 7 methods: (1) a method and apparatus for recycling materials which mass-produce methane using a methane generating bacteria and a formate produced by reacting a strong base such as calcium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide at a high temperature and pressure with carbon monoxide obtained by partially oxidizing a waste such as the dry biomass or a plastics; (2) a method and apparatus using hydrogen also which simultaneously generates as a substrate for the methane generating bacteria; (3) a method and apparatus in which a formate or an acetate produced by existing methods is added; (4) a method and apparatus using hydrogen produced by other methods; (5) a method and apparatus for mass-producing methane from methanol; (6) a method and apparatus using hydrogen together with methanol; and (7) a plant environment restoring methods for producing methane by (1)-(7) methods using a plant cultivated in a soil containing a heavy metal, a hazardous chemical compound or a highly concentrated salt.
