PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cubic boron nitride sintered compact exhibiting excellent performances in a process where the cutting edge temperature goes up at the cutting such as in a cutting process of quench-hardened steel.;SOLUTION: This cubic boron nitride sintered compact comprises 55-75 vol% cubic boron nitride relative to the whole cubic boron nitride sintered compact and the rest of at least one bonding phase selected from among metals, carbides, nitrides, oxides, borides of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Fe, Co, Ni and Al, and mutual solid solutions thereof. The cubic boron nitride comprises 30-70 vol% fine particle cubic boron nitride with 0.5-2.0 μm particle diameter and 30-70 vol% coarse cubic boron nitride with larger than 2.0 μm to 10 μm particle diameter relative to the whole cubic boron nitride, respectively, and the average thickness value of the bonding phase is 0.5-1.0 μm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
