PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alicyclic epoxy compound (sealing material) having small variation of the reproducibility, uniformity and stability of hue and small lowering of the emission intensity of LED with time.;SOLUTION: The alicyclic epoxy compound is produced by the selective hydrogenation of the aromatic ring of an aromatic epoxy compound in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst containing a platinum-group element.
