PURPOSE: To provide a line type recognition method for a drawing input device which can simply execute line type recognition processing and easily extend the range of line types to be recognized. ;CONSTITUTION: Outline data obtained by extracting the outline of each graphic based upon binary image data obtained by reading out a drawing by a scanner 12 and lie type pattern registering a reference featured value in each of constitutional elements constituting the line type pattern of each line type are prepared. When an operator specifies the line type of a line to be recognized and the position of a constitutional element of the line to be recognized on the screen of a CRT display device, the type of the constitutional element is specified based upon the outline data and the featured value of the constitutional element is extracted. The extracted featured value is compared with a corresponding reference featured value to recognize the line type.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
