PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printer equipped with a manual cutter operating section for manually unlocking a cutter mechanism in which the operating load at the manual cutter operating section is lessened while enhancing the operability thereof.;SOLUTION: The control method of a cutter comprises a process (S2307-S2309) for performing cutting operation through a cutter mechanism 19a by driving a motor 34 in the direction B in response to a continuous form cut instruction thereby meshing a planetary gear 42 for cutter and a transmission gear 39 for cutter, a process (S2310) for judging abnormality of operation in the cutter mechanism 19a, and a process (S2312-S2316) for unmeshing the planetary gear 42 for cutter and the transmission gear 39 for cutter by driving the motor 34 in the direction A by a specified amount when cutting operation at the cutter mechanism 19a is judged to be abnormal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
