PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provdie a highly sensitive BOD sensor and a highly sensitive BOD measuring method using its sensor. ;SOLUTION: A pseudomonas putida 10G as an aerobic bacteria is combined with an oxygen electrode so as to form a BOD sensor. The aspiration activity of the bacteria is increased by consuming organic matter contained in specimen water so as to reduce dissolved oxygen. As a result, because a current amout from the oxygen electrode is reduced, its amount of variation is measured so as to obtain a BOD value. This measurement method takes a very short measurement time of as short as 1 to 10 minutes, is easy in operation, does not need skill, is not almost affected by chloride ion and heavy metal ion, and also is approx. 0.25 ppm in detection limit.
