According to the invention, the device comprises a sensor (26) for determining the consistency of the material in a section of the thick matter delivery pipe (10), a control unit (28) to which a signal can be transmitted from the sensor (26) upon a change in the consistency of the material, and a closing device (30) that can be actuated by the control unit when the signal is received, the closing device being used to at least partially close the end-hose (18).
