In the present invention, there are disclosed pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic compositions intended for application to human or animal skin containing pseudoceramide of the general formula I, in which Re1 represents alkyl having 12 to 20 carbon atoms in the chain; Re2 represents alkyl or alkenyl containing 15 to 29 carbon atoms in the chain, with the exception of (E)-heptadec-8-enyl, whereby minimum number of carbon atoms in a molecule is 36, in an amount of 0.01 to 20 percent by weight, based on the composition total weight, in a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle. The compositions are intended for re-lipidization of skin as well as for additional treatment of skin diseases associated with reduced amount of lipids and increased permeability of skin. They can be used for treating damaged, dry or ageing skin and skin adnex or for prevention of skin damage and skin adnex. There are also disclosed novel pseudoceramides of the general formula II, in which Ze3 denotes alkyl containing 12 to 20 carbon atoms in the chain, Re4 represents alkyl or alkenyl having 15 to 29 carbon atoms in the chain, whereby minimum number of carbon atoms in a molecule is 36 and Re3 and Re4 have specifically restricted meaning.
